Discovery

The "Discovery" series explores encaustic's unique potential for layering and excavation. Working with wax, pigment, and texture, I build up surfaces only to scrape them back, revealing hidden stories beneath. This dynamic process of addition and subtraction becomes both creation and archaeological dig.

Each piece began with organic layering of colors and textures, followed by meditative scraping that unveiled unexpected patterns and connections. The interplay of vibrant oranges, greens, and soft blues against muted backgrounds marks a deliberate departure from my usual palette, infusing the work with curiosity and playfulness.

This series represents a pivotal moment in my practice—my first cohesive body of work in encaustic. Previously, I created individual pieces without intentional connections. Here, I explored narrative continuity, allowing pieces to speak to one another in a unified expression of process and discovery.

Each work invites viewers to pause and wonder about the layers beneath, capturing the spirit of discovery not just in creation, but in encountering the unexpected. Through these pieces, I hope to inspire curiosity about exploring depths—whether in art or life—and finding beauty in the process of uncovering.
